Trail Work — Saturday, October 13
October 8th, 2007 Posted in NewsTRAIL WORK DAY: SPREAD THE WORD!
DATE: Saturday, October 13, 2007, 9:00 a.m. – noon
PLACE: Where the BDTrail intersects Willow Creek Rd., which is exactly the same place we’ve met for our past two work days. (See detailed directions below.)
PLAN: We’ll continue to clear and widen the stretch from Willow Creek Rd. north. Paul Thorington, Parks Manager, said that all the brush we cleared last time will be chipped by October 13.
BRING:
- your own hand tools and work gloves (hand saws, loppers). Please, no power tools. You don’t have tools and work gloves? Come empty-handed. Parks will bring lots of tools.
- your own snacks, drinks.
**A heads-up for people under 18: You will need the signature of a
guardian or parent in order to participate, which can be done either
on-site or in advance at the Taughannock Park office.
We older folks are required to sign for ourselves to be official volunteer
trail-workers (Parks policy), but rest assured that we no longer have to
give our social security numbers, only the last 4 digits. Volunteer
releases last only one year, acc. to Paul T.
DIRECTIONS to the Work Day Site:
- Take NY 89 (Taughannock Blvd) north from Ithaca (past Cass Park) about 7 miles.
- Turn left (away from the lake and up hill) onto Agard Rd. (Agard Rd intersects Rte 89 at #1571 Taughannock Blvd. )
Travel on Agard Rd. about 0.6 miles. - Turn right onto Willow Creek Rd. about 0.2 miles; you’ll see where the Black Diamond Trail intersects on the left.
- Park cars along Willow Creek Road.
